About

Irene Mudd is a multi-media artist and illustrator who lives and works in her hometown of Louisville, KY. Mudd earned her BFA in Painting and Fiber Art from the Hite Art Institute in 2017. In 2018, Mudd self-published her hand-collaged tarot deck, The Guided Hand Tarot via Kickstarter, and has since sold her deck to tarot lovers all over the world. She currently sells her deck and illustration work on her artist shop website, Guided Hand Studio.

Mudd’s work explores issues of erasure in women’s histories, and the intersections of myth, magic and power. The theme of creation as a form of magical power is a common thread in much of Mudd’s work, as well as the relationships between craft, class and how women’s art is valued. Having grown up surrounded by the rich history of Kentuckian craft, the traditional fiber techniques she employs in her work makes reference to both her ancestral history and the historical relationship between women and textiles. Mudd’s spectrum of influence includes artists such as Amy Cutler, Marcel Dzama, Hilma af Klint, and Cat Mazza.
